ELC did not let the opportunity of visiting the Hellenic American Union's exhibition on Ernest Hemingway go by. The exhibition paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of the writer's death (a bit morbid - but..."shrugs"). The display included photographs, audio-visuals, the viewing of the film "A farewell to Arms", based on the homonymous novel, as well as other archival materials.

Ecofans Club 2!
On the 2nd April, the Ecofans Club had their second meeting of the year. This time all the children went on a guided tour of the historical places of Halkida, including the castle, the Mosque, and St. Paraskevi Church. With them was an experienced guide who gave them invaluable and interesting information on these places. They were even allowed into the Mosque to look at the ancient treasures inside. Here are some pictures of the memorable afternoon.

If you want to find out more about the Ecofans club, or if you want to join, please speak to Miss Ioanna in Halkida or Mr Steven at Vathi.
The next meeting will be at the beginning of June.

Football 3!
We had our third football event last Saturday. This was for the older students. We will have another event at the end of the year for younger students.
We played three games with 3 different teams at Ermillios Soccer Club. The first game finished 4-4, the second game 4-4 and then Mr Ross' team won the last game 5-0 to become the winners of the tournament.
The students also played the teachers, won about 20-5. But there were a lot more of them. There will be a rematch.
Here are some of the photos:

Ecofans club number 1
Yes.... it's amazing but true!!!
EcoFans Club welcomed ELC on 19 February 2011.The hosts Mr. Steven, Miss Eleftheria and Miss Ioanna welcomed the students to the club's 1st event. There ELC's first EcoFans, who we hope will become more and more in the near future, were shown a powerpoint presentation and leant what an EcoFan is. That is, somebody who is interested in ecology and the environment. They were also told about the aims of the EcoFans Club which are to: a) have fun, b) make new friends, c) learn about themselves and other people and d) learn about the environment. They were also revealed EcoFan's Club motto which is : ''We change ourselves before we change our neighborhood, we change our neighborhood before we change the world''. Besides this, they got to know what EcoFans Club will focus on for 2010-2011, which is monuments and the environment. Towards the end of the presentation they were told that they have a mission for the 2nd EcoFans Club Event and that is to find amazing but true information about Halkida's three most famous monuments which are: the Castle of Karababas, the Mosque or Saint Paraskevi Church. This way they could take part in EcoFans Club Competition and not only learn about their city's monuments but also maybe be one of the winners of the competition and win the mystery prize.
After the presentation ELC's EcoFans were presented with their badges and hats with the EcoFans Club logo and were then asked to work together in teams and create a picture that would show what they learnt from the presentation. Mr. Steven, Miss Eleftheria and Miss Ioanna were amazed by the first EcoFans creativity and concern about the environment. Their drawings, their choice of colors and the messages they passed through their teamwork were truly amazing!!!!!
The hosts of the event, Mr. Steven, Miss Eleftheria and Miss Ioanna thank you very much for coming to the 1st EcoFans Club event and we're looking forward to seeing you and your friends again at the 2nd EcoFans Club Event which will be a mystery field trip!!!!
